Utilize Your Summers, Youths!

on October 11, 2019

A Season is an extent of time rupturing the whole into non-singular fragments by undertaking the changing occurrences. “Seasons occur because of the tilt of the Earth’s rotational axis, which is about 23.4 degrees”. There are four seasons where I come from: Summer, Fall, Winter, and Spring; each of which has its pros and beauties.

After spring comes the playful and fun- Summer. Let’s talk Summer!
What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you think about the Summer?

Well, mine is a snowman. No, I am not insane, just hot and heavy about the Disney movie Frozen (2013). Remember Olaf singing- “When life gets rough, I like to hold on to my dream, Of relaxing in the summer sun, just lettin' off steam”? Yeah that one, are you one of those sun lovers too? Then welcome to the club!

The best way to have great summers while you are in your youth is by being young. Travel and explore. Have you had pizzas in Rome? Pasta in Itlay? Have you done salsa on Spanish streets? Been to Santorini, Greece? These are idealistic and very expensive, I know. But that’s okay. We don’t have to go all ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’ to savor the sun. We can also do ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’. You know it’s equally that enjoyable- hiking mountains, camping in the middle of deserts with your best friends, right? Do more of the things that make you feel alive!

Go to the beach. Light a bonfire. Swim in the sea. Any beach is better than sitting at home. Load up on sunblock so that you get only glazed caramel tan and not sunburns.

Volunteer at a shelter. Give back to the community. If you like mutts and mongrels, you can help out at an animal center. Teach tiny humans to read and write. Tutor kids/colleagues from your school who need that study help with their studies. Help around the house with chores.

Do you know French? Spanish? Latin? Umm... German too? Learn a language. If you don’t know German let’s say, watch a German show with audio in german and have subtitles on in the language you are comfortable with. Learn something new! Like languages don’t amuse me, sports do. This summer I went and signed myself up for a swim class just for the heck of it. My conclusion at the end of it was that I love drowning (or I’m a bad swimmer LoL). But that's okay. I took a chance and had a new experience.

Workout! If you have a goal in mind which could be to lose/gain weight, toning up, building muscles, that’s great. Go get it. If not? A study suggests you should still workout at least your minimal to keep healthy. So, get out and get fit.

Go to local concerts, funfairs, and festivals. It’s not even that expensive. Be a kid again. Stare at the pretty lights and ride a Giant Wheel! Play all those stupid lame games that you so desperately wanted to play as a kid and your parents asked you not to.

Make ice-creams, and slushies, and lemonades! Just go to the nearest market and get everything you need and get to it. Word of advice- don’t make a lot of mess while you are enjoying it. My mother made me clean it up all by myself when I forgot to put the lid on my blender.

Read. Read. Read. You can have your virtual summer vacay right there! Sit amongst the flower field and read. It will bring peace to your mind which is brain food by the way. Through reading, you get exposure to a world of ideas. Author’s art of articulating his colored thought for the readers.

Host a movie night under the stars. Make popcorn. Take Polaroid pictures. Make a scrapbook of your timeline with your friends. Create some art. Whether it’s music, belle, painting, etc.

How do you spend your summers? And if you answer my question with ‘I honestly just sit/lay around’ trust me you are being careless with your time and thereby your life too. Don’t take it for granted. There are so my things to learn and experiences in this world to have had. So just get out there. Hustle. Run. Jog. Dance. Walk. Do a split. Do whatever you want. Be whoever you want. Or else you’ll regret it. You wouldn’t even know what you’ve missed, all that you could have been or worse you will know.

Today in 2020, it is quite easy to get lured by gadgets, the Internet, social media when we have spare time on our hands. We get busy with our lives during schools and colleges. But in summers you get to get out of your comfort zone and push yourself. If you never try something you’ll never know.
